Black Girls Rock
African Americans have been at the forefront of discrimination and hatred throughout the history of American society. This bias nature has resulted in the exclusion of African American representation in the public media.
The lack of representation has not only influenced the perception of inferiority by others, but resulted in an internalized, negative self-perception. This app was
created for Black Girls Rock, an existing organization dedicated to enriching girls through leadership, education, and positive identity development.

pursue their dreams.
This empowerment site encourages young girls to
explore careers, learn necessary life skills, and connect with peers and professionals.
This research explores ways in which UX Design and digital platforms could be utilized to facilitate a more positive self-perception among young African American women.
SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN
Featuring young girls in local communities around
the nation who are bringing people together, thus providing relatable examples for user.
Using this app can boost the self-image of teen girls and lessen feelings of marginalization. As the ultimate social media platform, it allows girls to connect with one another, sign up for events
and workshops, organize their schedule and plan group outings.
SXSW Innovation Lab 2020
This app will help foster a greater sense of self-confidence, and community, among adolescents. The enrichment, empowerment, and inspiration Black Girls Rock programs provide is extremely beneficial, and I would argue vital, to young girls of color everywhere.
